Mamma cows.....

So April had her baby in the herd with all the other cows and Dillon looking on. We picked up her baby and she followed Marvin very frantically trying to make sure he was not hurting her baby! Once released into their area we call the nursery she settled right down and went to work on grooming that calf that was not so cleaned up well. (Good mamma!) so the next day Marvin went to check on April to see how things were going. April was still a bit miffed from the previous day that Marvin picked up HER calf and walked out the herd pasture to the nursery. So Marvin squatted down and just waited quietly a short distance from calf and cow. April looked at him and blew air at him taking a quick step forward showing her displeasure at him just squatting so close to her and her baby. She did this several times and Marvin never moved a muscle but just sat there. Meanwhile in field 1 a whole "little" audience was watching all of this with great curiosity with their little noses pressed up against the fence as they watched her try to get Marvin to move away. So the 3 little ones in the next field had just recently been weaned from their mom's. So they took extreme interest in all of this going on in the nursery but especially the nursing part. You could almost hear their mouths watering for some milk. Since April could not get Marvin to move she stared at the 3 little ones pressed in so intensely into the fence watching everything. Then she blew her nose at them and stepped forward quickly. The 3 little ones watching literally fell over each other trying to get out of her way (she only took 1 step)(she just might come through the fence you know?) and they no longer stayed too close to the fence but remained a good distance away watching carefully. When Marvin told me this story I could picture this above scene perfectly and I laughed hysterically hearing about this particular adventure.
